Around the world, it has been a fairly common trend for a number of years that urban areas are growing in population at the expense of their rural neighbours. I believe that if this trend continues and is not controlled in some way, it may have adverse effects on the family, not to mention the fact that there will be no one left to move to a city, as the entire rural population won’t exist. In my opinion, this would be a catastrophic result.

Almost any country around the world, fame and fortune, or at least well-paid work, is mainly found in the big cities rather than in agricultural areas. That’s not to say there isn’t a significant amount of employment available in the countryside; it’s just more interesting and has a higher salary in a city. This way, the migrant workers can have a reasonable standard of living in the city whilst still having enough money to send back to their families. This is worrying as it means that the family unit is broken up and may have a detrimental effect on any children that may be around.

Another concerning element is the number of people leaving rural areas. In some places, farmland and other such sites are being abandoned due to the lack of people available, able and wanting to till the land. I believe this could severely affect the food supply that the cities and their populations require. This imbalance would need to be addressed correctly and quickly in order to avoid potential harm.

In conclusion, not only is this trend a negative one, but I also believe, for the reasons I’ve stated above, that it could potentially be a lethal one unless addressed quickly and competently. (292 words)
